From the Director
Mississippi Adolescent Center (MAC) is dedicated to providing adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities a comprehensive array of services and supports to maximize their potential. A dedicated staff of professionals work around the clock to provide an environment which enhances their quality of life and assists them in reaching their maximum potential.
Our motto is “Helping Shape the Future”. We help shape the future with high quality standards, community involvement and a commitment to excellence. Our commitment to the future of our adolescents is seen in the by provision of quality services that include but are not limited to behavioral intervention, communication skill building, independent living skills, prevocational skills and transitional skills.

About the Director
Shirley Miller is the director of Mississippi Adolescent Center. Ms. Miller has a Bachelors degree from Jackson State University and a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University. Her certification and licenses include a Licensed Mental Health Administrator, Certified Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Therapist, Early Intervention Specialist, Graduate of the Mississippi Certified Public Manager Program, Graduate of the State Executive Development Institute and a Graduate of the Department of Mental Health Accelerated Leadership Development Program: Focus.
Ms. Miller’s professional career exceeds twenty years of service to the Mississippi Department of Mental Health in which she has been employed as the acting bureau director for the bureau of intellectual and developmental disabilities, deputy bureau director of the bureau of intellectual and developmental disabilities, and, director of the division of early intervention services. Since 1985 Ms. Miller has served as a special education consultant.
As a consummate experienced mental health professional, Ms. Miller has an extensive involvement in organizations that develop policy, and provides support to state and nonprofit agencies. Some organizations in which she is currently involved are: Board of Directors for Very Special Arts of Mississippi, Member of the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Advisory Council, Member of the Mississippi Council on Developmental Disabilities, Co-Chair of the Mississippi Interagency Coordinating Council, and Co-Chair of the Mississippi Special Education Advisory Council.
Ms. Miller is married to Wes Miller and they have two sons, Micah and Aaron.
Mission Statement
The Mississippi Adolescent Center is a Department of Mental Health Facility dedicated to provide comprehensive services to adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities that need a specialized setting in which their behavior, education and socialization skills are fully developed. Our outcome is to return the adolescents to their community with the skills necessary to lead a productive life!
